5. A Hope to Persist On

With your hatred
you accomplish nothing.
The only thing you can kill
and make any gains by having killed, is your hatred.
If a man acts on his hatred, he has forfeited his humanity.
Hatred comes easy. Hatred is easy. Hatred is, sadly, natural.
Hatred is comfortable; we can be sure in our hatred.
Hatred is reasonable. Be unreasonable.
Be awkward.

We believe in a faith,
the faith in a good,
the good in everyone.

We believe in a faith
in the good in all of us,
and it's what you don't have to give
when you really give of yourself.

Shine from when darkness closes around
until the new light dawns.
And lift them up in your arms
so, they can see
how everyone has someone to get home to.
Everyone has one thing they love and live for.
We all have a hope that we persist on.

Yet here we are so taken with such gentlemen
with plans for war rolled out in their heads.
Such gentlemen, so magnificent, and what a legacy left -
our hands pushing down,
not reaching out for our world as it struggles.

Yeah, here we are selling ourselves,
and I mean we sell ourselves,
short of all we're worth.

So many roads... we never walk where they run.
So many homes... we never care to belong.

We believe in a faith,
the faith in a good,
the good in everyone.

We believe in a faith
in the good in all of us,
and it's when you don't have to be
that you really become something.

Shine from when darkness closes around
until the new light dawns
and lift them up in your arms
so, they can see
how everyone has someone to get home to.
Everyone has one thing they love and live for.
We all have a hope that we persist on.
Our hearts all beat and bleed and sacrifice for love!

Love makes us uneasy, unsure of ourselves.
To love is to be called to defend, and curled up dependent,
something to find devotion in, and something to delight in.
To have love is to have purpose. To love is simply to have.
To love is to keep your hands in your pockets
and your tongue quiet when it would spread disservice.
To love is to be loud and up in arms only when it's needed.
To love is to have everything to lose.
